WHY CHOOSE SUNROCK LODGE?

 

How do you choose the ‘perfect’ destination in a place you have never visited?  We have the same concern every time we travel and as any experienced traveler knows, it is at best a crapshoot.  We are all too frequently disappointed by the difference between what we expected and what we found when we arrive.  On a rare occasion, we experience a destination that exceeds our every expectation.  Our goal at Sunrock Lodge is to create the latter experience; that your stay in our home will be better than you imagined in every way. Being risk-averse, once we find a place we know and like, we return over and over. Our vision is to develop over time, a relationship with a select group of guests who know us and know our property and the experience we create.

 

Many cabins are described as luxury properties but what does this mean?  Will the definition of luxury be consistent from one location to the next? Will accommodations described as “luxury” meet your definition of luxury?  We want our guests to have a four-diamond experience at Sunrock Lodge.  But what does this mean?

 

To us, the first standard of luxury is cleanliness. Talk to anyone who has dealt with rental cabins or visit a few and you will quickly learn the difference between a property cleaned to a $50 standard and a property cleaned to a $200+ standard.  Or the difference between an old, cheap property without views worth and a relatively new property worth over $600,000.  When a cabin company managed Sunrock Lodge, we and our guests were never satisfied with their ‘luxury’ standard of cleaning.  Every time we visited our own home, we identified obvious issues that should have been addressed for what our guests and we were paying.  This is one of the main reasons we decided to self-manage.  We have dedicated housekeeping.  The couple that manages and cleans our home takes a great deal of pride in their work and they share our goal of every visitor fining the house in exquisite condition.  Our housekeeping standard is perfection.  We understand that you are paying a premium price and you are entitled to expect premium accommodations and impeccable cleanliness and that is exactly what you will get at Sunrock Lodge.

 

The house has 3,372 square feet of heated space on three levels.  In addition to a small covered entry, there is a 320 square foot screened side porch with an outdoor fireplace and a six-seat SPA and a 416 square foot covered back porch.  The back (or view) porch runs the entire 52- foot length of the house. It is 8 feet wide.

 

It is easy for us to say our home is nice; you would expect that. However, the best compliments and evaluations come from our guests:

 

(5 Star Rating) – Spiritual Retreat That is the only way I know to describe this home. I could not say enough good things about it; the layout of the home was perfect for our family. We have stayed at many cabins but this one by far was the best. The view from every room of the home was spectacular. The sunrises, sunsets and the big full moon were just picture perfect. The home was spotless and believe me I am very picky when it comes to clean. We only went out one day to Field of the Woods which is great if you haven't been. But we so enjoyed the property that we did all the cooking there. It has a great gas grill. It looked new. A big screened-in porch with rocking chairs and a hot tub. A deck you could sit on and just admire all of God’s handy work. The beds were all very comfortable and really nice bed linens.

 

I just can't say enough good things about this property and I speak for my family as well. There was [sic] 4 couples and my mother -in -law and we had plenty of room for everybody to do what they wanted to do and not bother anyone. We love to play games and cards and I love to read, oh yea, they even have a very good selection of books, I read the autobiography of Franklin Graham while I was there so if you get to go I highly recommend it. Thanks again for sharing your home with our family and allowing us to make memories we will never forget.

 

Things define luxury in our case are predominantly leather furniture, high thread count linens, and towels, large pillows, upgraded pillow-top bedding with egg crates, and high-quality paper goods. Exquisite decorating touches, upgraded fixtures and attention to detail also define luxury. Luxury means amenities and we have plenty of them:

 

  • Professional quality pool table

  • Screened side porch

  • Outdoor wood-burning fireplace –we provide the wood

  • Bose Lifestyle 48 DVD surround sound system with a large stored music library

  • 50” Panasonic flat-panel plasma TV in the game room

  • All TVs on their own dedicated satellite receiver

  • DSL based wireless network with two access points

  • Large stainless gas grill (cast-iron grates) with side burner with a reserve bottle of LP gas.

  • Ceiling fans in every suite and throughout the Lodge

  • A fully stocked gourmet kitchen including:

    • Black Galaxy granite countertops

    • Oversized stainless sinks

    • Side by side stainless GE Profile Refrigerator with ice & water through the door

    • Smooth surface GE Profile cooktop.

    • GE Profile stainless dishwasher and microwave oven

    • Upgraded Mr. Coffee filter-less coffee maker

    • Blender o Plenty of cookware and food storage containers

    • Stainless flatware.

Sunrock's average confirmation to arrival date is around 80 days; much more lead is required for holiday stays. The maximum is nearly 300 days and dates have been sold on the arrival date.  Like most properties in Blue Ridge, we usually sell the entire leaf season (October 1 - November 15).  Christmas sells every year, often nearly a year in advance.  If you are serious about coming to Sunrock Lodge and you are inside sixty days from your arrival date, you should act decisively to avoid a conflict. We accept the first contract received for each reservation. We do not hold dates pending confirmation.
